Cheese makers are invited to enter the first ever Britain's Smelliest Cheese Championships, to be held at the Royal Bath & West Show this May.

Although France holds the world title with the pungent Le Vieux Boulogne, British cheese makers have also shown they are strong on pong with varieties such as Stinking Bishop and Morn Dew.

The Royal Bath and West Smelly Cheese Championships will be a fun event with a serious purpose, namely to demonstrate the creativity and diversity of British cheese makers. The Royal Bath and West show will host nearly 1,000 cheeses, represented by around 150 cheese makers. According to Mike Pullin, of Ford Farm and Chairman of the Royal Bath & West Dairy Produce Awards, Britain has suffered from a reputation for being forever stuck in Cheddarland – an outdated perception which the Royal Bath & West Show is keen to change.

“The Championships will attract visitors to the event and give us an opportunity to show off the amazing selection of products at the Cheese Show’ says Mike”.  The final cheeses will be judged by an expert panel of cheese makers and food experts plus a group of local schoolchildren who will be in the 7-11 age group, the optimum age for a keen sense of smell.
